Ubaya Team qualified for the PolyU Innovation and Entrepreneurship Student Challenge 2009 (PIESC 2009) Final Round

After several competitive rounds, PolyU Innovation and Entrepreneurship Student Challenge 2009 decided the 30 finalists and Ubaya is the only Indonesian university qualified for the final round.

The team that was initiated by Benny Lianto S., MMBAT (Dean Faculty of Engineering Ubaya) and Dr. Sujoko Efferin (Dean Faculty of Economics Ubaya) successfully defeated other team from worldwide. This Ubaya team consists of Melati Ekawati (Faculty of Economics Student), Yusuf Adi Pura (Industrial Engineering Student), William Firman (Industrial Engineering Student), and Andrian Soejoto (Faculty of Economics Student).
    
On this competition, the team designed The Chloro Electronics Inc Business Plan. Chloro Electronics is a company that produces Chloro cell-portable using fuel cell product. William as a spokesperson of the team described, “Chloro Cell is an environmental friendly product that able to supply energy using fuel cell.”     
    
On 30 April, all of the team members were very happy, knowing they are qualified to the final round. Also qualified for the final round are Stanford University, National University of Singapore, Tsinghua University, Queensland University of Technology and other world’s top universities. Benny Lianto explained,” This is the first Ubaya team that combines several branch of knowledge. This achievement proves that Ubaya students are able to compete not only in national but also international level.”

2 Ubaya lecturers, Zulaicha Parastuty ST MSc and Silvia Margaretha SE MM as the supervisor, mentor, and motivator of the team said, “This team has worked very hard for 4 months. We are pleased with this achievement of being a finalist for this prestigious international competition.”
On 3-9 June, all finalists will present their business plan in Hong Kong.

Being the only Indonesian finalist in the PolyU Innovation and Entrepreneurship Student Challenge 2009 (PIESC 2009) is surely a momentous moment for Ubaya. PIESC is an
International level making business plan competition. TheUbaya team consists of William Firman (as team leader) from Industrial Engineering Department, Melati Ekawati from Faculty of Economics, Yusuf Adi Pura from Industrial Engineering Department and Andrian Soejoto from Faculty of Economics. This multidiscipline team was initiated by Dean Faculty of Engineering and Economics.

On 30 April, all of the team members were very happy, knowing they are qualified to the final round. As finalist, Ubaya eliminated many world’s top universities such as RMIT Australia, TU Berlin – German, University of London – UK, Georgia Institute of Technology – USA, University of Calgary – Canada, many others. The participants of PIESC 2009 are 78 teams from 19 countries of Australia, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Finland, German, India, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, The Netherlands, China, Singapore, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, UK, USA and Vietnam.

Afterwards, 30 teams qualified to the final round. Ubaya that represents Indonesia will compete with other finalists from 13 countries. Some of finalists are Purdue University, Stanford University, National University of
Singapore (NUS), Queensland University of Technology, Tsinghua University, Peking University and other world’s top universities. What a spectacular achievement from this Ubaya team.

The theme of PIESC 2009 is “Shine the world with your ideas” with the sub-theme of Health and Wellness, Lifestyle, Environment & Sustainability. Based on that theme and sub-theme, Ubaya team designs The Chloro Electronics Inc Business Plan. This team is mentored by 2 Ubaya deans, Benny Lianto S., MMBAT (Dean Faculty of Engineering Ubaya) and Dr. Sujoko Efferin (Dean Faculty of Economics Ubaya) as well as several Ubaya lecturers such as Zulaicha Parastuty (Industrial Engineering lecturer), Silvia Margaretha (Faculty of Economics lecturer), Nemuel Pah (Electrical Engineering lecturer, and Putu Doddy (Chemical Engineering lecturer).

On the coming 3-9 June 2009, Ubaya team will compete in Hongkong. The committee provides ticket and accommodation for 3 members of the team. For the final round, each participant is asked to collect presentation, 2 weeks before the final round. The juries for this competition are business practitioner, government and academician from numerous countries.
