To play Dakon, players need little seeds to fill in the holes. The seeds used are generally seeds of tan or seeds of other fruits. Yet, in perspective of 5 Ubaya Product Management and Design students, using seeds is unsafe especially for children.

Being inspired by that anxiety, they design a special congklak that is safe for children. The 5 Ubaya students are Kristia Lani, Novita Limanto, Devi Tania, Windy Febrianty, and Fricilia A.S. Their congklak is one of the assignments from their New Product Management subject.

”It is our intention to make congklak game more popular by designing innovative and safer congklak game. We intend to design safer congklak game for children, because they sometimes swallow the seeds. To fulfill that, we replace the board with colorful poles as well as replace the seeds with small doughnut dacron pillow. To attract children, we use different color for each doughnut pillow. This is safer because they can’t swallow the pillow,” smiled Lani who scored A for this Dakonat.

Their Dakonat will be sent to Jakarta to compete on Indonesia Good Design Selection (IGDS) competition. “The winner will be announced on November. Who knows we can win that competition,” she ended.
