Industrial Engineering offers various choices. Unlike the other engineering sciences which apply the skill only in one specific field, industrial engineering offers the opportunity to work on various number of job fields. The thing that differentiates Industrial Engineering from other engineering sciences lay on the flexibility being offered; such as properness evaluation of certain investment, designing organisation structure and information source, which are needed by management, product distribution to other countries, or superior automobile productions. All of those things have the same purpose, which is to save the company’s money and to increase efficiency.

As the company adopting the management philosophy about continuation of productivity and quality improvement in order to be able to survive in the competitive global market

competition, therefore the need of industrial engineering graduates increases. Why? Because industrial engineering graduates are the only professional ones in engineering field which is taught as a specialist in productivity and quality improvement.

Industrial Engineering Graduates focus on how to do something better. They engineer the process and the system that improve the quality and productivity. They work in order to omit the inefficiency of time, money, material, energy and other commodities. The most important thing is industrial engineering graduates save the usage of company’s money. Therefore, there are many companies recruit industrial engineering graduates and promote them on specific management position each day.

Many people get confused by the word ”Industrial Engineering Graduates”. The word ”Industrial” does not mean the focus is only manufacturing field. Service industry also has the chance to be engineered by industrial engineering graduates. It has been known for a long time that an industrial engineering graduate has the technical ability to evaluate and increase the productivity and quality of manufacture and service industry.

Industrial Engineering Ubaya has a commitment to produce graduates who have professional knowledge, ability and attitude; and also based on entrepreneur and innovative spirit in facing career challenge in globalisation in the field of designing, implementing, fixing and organising system in manufacture and service industry which consist of human, machine, tools, money, energy and information with integrated and systematic approach, therefore those systems can work optimally.

The study load for students of the Industrial Engineering Department Ubaya is 144 credits - 136 SKS compulsory subjects and an additional 8 credits of elective subjects and all credits are designed to be finished within 8 semesters.

In order to equip students with knowledge and additional competency that relevant with the latest development of industries, students can choose one of the three offered field of interests:

Ergonomics and Safety Management
This field of interest offers additional knowledge to the students in designing a better production system and work place viewed from work health and safety, as well as environmentally friendly. The offered subjects will give more understanding about human characteristic not only physically but also psychologically. The students will be taught about research information that consists of knowledge about ergonomics in implementing product improvement and working safety management in production level. To enrich all kinds of approaches that will be implemented, the lecturers of the subject will consist of the mix between lecturers from industrial engineering, faculty of psychology, centre of environmental study and other related institutions.

Quality Engineering and Management
This field of interest was founded because of the dynamic needs of the appropriate quality, which will never end. Quality improvement not only in working process but also in management is society expectation toward industrial world. This is the reason of the appearing of quality sciences improvement which is also seen by Industrial Engineering as one of the important knowledge which is needed by students as future business doer. The scope of this field of interest includes the quality of manufacture, service, and also interaction between both. The offered subjects will give knowledge about how to arrange the good quality technique and management, the application in industrial field and also the implementation in working field either in executive level or in production level.

Logistic and Supply Chain
In the last 2 decades, the competition becomes tough, either in domestic or in international in the global market era. In order to be able to survive and even win the competition, organisation does not depend only on the internal strength, but also from the cooperation with the other organisations. Integrated supply chain management is the competitive strategy in improving the service quality for customer through effective and efficient cooperation network with other organisations.

Industrial Engineering anticipates the need of those organisations by offering this field of interest for equipping the graduates with the ability to develop the stream flowing of information, material and financial between the members of supply chain in the whole integrated business process.

The scope of this field of interest covers designing, implementing, arranging, and fixing supply chain system.

Industrial Enginering Curriculum
The general requirements to become a graduate:
- Have earned the minimum of 146 SKS which should consist of:
- All of the compulsory subjects (136 SKS)
- The elective subjects (8 SKS) based on the chosen major with the minimum of 3 subjects (6 SKS) must be taken from the chosen major and the maximum of 1 subject (2 SKS) could be taken from other major or general elective
- The minimum GPA (IPK) of 2.00
- The “D” grade results achieved are less than 20 % from the total SKS taken
- Have completed the Student Orientation Programme (MOB)
- Have achieved a minimum “C” grade result in the following subjects
