BAN-PT No. 016/BAN-PT/Ak-VII/S1/V/2004 dengan peringkat “A”

It is the aim of Informatics Engineering Department Ubaya to generate graduates who posses the highest level of competency, not only technical skills/competencies on computing but also other skills/competencies needed to begin the career such as communication skills, leadership and entrepreneurship. Possessing the highest level of competency, graduates from Informatics Engineering Ubaya are expected to be able to compete on national and international job markets.

Informatics Engineering students are required to take144 SKS. The normal study period of the students is 8 semesters. Students are eligible to apply for work placement after they have earned the minimum of 90 SKS. Students can propose for their final thesis after they have earned the minimum of 110 SKS. In addition, students are eligible for their final thesis presentation after they have finished 129 SKS.

The curriculum on Informatics Engineering Ubaya is intended not only to place a strong engineering knowledge and competency for the students but also to provide high flexibility/opportunity for the students to develop their career on a particular field. In line with the intention, the Curriculum 2005 offers an adequate amount of elective subjects. From the total elective subjects available, students are required to take the minimum 24 SKS. The high quantity of 24 SKS elective subjects is intended to allow students to determine their particular own competency.

There are four field of interests in Informatics Engineering Ubaya. The four field of interests are intended to enable students to be more focus in determining their particular own competency.

The students are eligible to choose one field of interest once the students have taken the minimum of 15 SKS of their elective subjects under the chosen field of interest. While, the rest of 9 SKS could be chosen from the general elective subjects or from the elective subjects under the other three field of interests.
Moreover, Informatics Engineering Ubaya also permits students who decide not to choose any field of interests. Generally, this decision is taken by students who want to get equal knowledge from all of the four field of interests. This will once again provide high opportunity/flexibility for the students to develop their career on a particular field.

Field of Interests and Future Career

- Enterprise Information System
This field of interest study will study the role of computer and its applications to solve problems happen in business and industry. The students will learn the role/use of computer within business and industry as well as learn the management needed to optimise that role.

    Future Career
Students who choose this field of interest can pursue their career as follows:
Systems Analyst who responsible to become a direct medium between the management and computer operation. Systems analyst is responsible for planning and recommending computer operation to the management of company. Business Systems Analyst (who works to solve problems in commercial company) and Data-Base Analyst ( who responsible to manage the company’s data) are the two types of career that could be related to systems analyst
Data-Base Administrator who responsible to operate and manage the company’s data (public and private)

- Computer Network and Web Programming
This field of interest focuses on mastering the technological side and the application side of data communication. By mastering both, the students are expected to understand the most current technologies available. Computer Network technologies studied are Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), and Internet. While, the application will enable students in utilising technologies to overcome problems happened in business and industry. The students will also learn how to develop and design various web-based applications.

    Future Career
    Students who choose this field of interest can pursue their career as follows:
  • Network Analyst is responsible to administer how the computer systems are integrated to form information networks useful for the users.   The responsibilities of Network analyst include organising the networks’ elements, determining appropriate equipments, and analysing/testing & supervising the networks once the networks have been formed
  • Web Programmer who responsible to develop programme for web based applications.

- Computer Graphics and Multimedia
This field of interest focuses on the multimedia application development and the multimedia author tools development. The multimedia application development emphasizes on the multimedia application design and various tools that support the multimedia application development. While, the multimedia author tools development concentrates on algorithms that is used in developing the tools.

    Future Career
    Students who choose this field of interest can pursue their career as follows:
  • Multimedia designer or multimedia implementer who designs and implements multimedia applications. The multimedia designer is usually related with marketing field
  • Multimedia application tools designer.

- Intelligent System Model
This field of interest focuses on understanding and designing some models to meet various optimisation issues occurred in the real world. Besides that, this field of interest also study the model of systems by using the artificial intelligence.

    Future Career
    Students who choose this field of interest can pursue their career as follows:
  • Consultant for those companies who are interested to optimise their system
  • System Modeller who assists companies in modelling the companies’ system so that will help the company in making decision aims to improve the company’s performance.

Future Career (General)
Besides some work fields under the field of interests, Informatics Engineering graduates are expected to pursue career in the following positions:
  • Programmer who handles the design of various applications
  • EDP Manager who responsible on purchasing, installing and controlling administration on the Data Processing Centre
  • Training Specialist (Instructor) who teaches Programming, Operation Systems, Communication Technology, and etc
  • Project Leader (Project Director or Manager) who responsible to manage the project of application design from the initial stage to the final stage includes preparing the schedule and organising training sessions.

Informatics Engineering Curriculum

The general requirements to become a graduate:
- Have earned the minimum of 144 SKS
- Have completed all of compulsory subjects
- The minimum GPA (IPK) of 2.00
- The “D” grade results achieved are less than 20 % from the total SKS taken
- Have completed the Student Orientation Programme (MOB)
- Have achieved a minimum “C” grade result in the following subjects
  • Pancasila and Civic Education
  • Research Methodology
  • Database
  • Software Engineering
  • Human Computer Interaction
  • Industrial Ergonomics
  • Visual Programming Environment
  • Object-oriented Programming orientate
  • Object-oriented Design and Analysis
